Have you ever dreamed of fighting on a dragon in a video game? Sure, you may have experience riding a monster in Monster Hunter. You may have a cool dragon mount in World of Warcraft. You probably still remember the sensation of slaying Tar Goroth on a dragon’s back in Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Behold, Century: Age of Ashes is a game that centers around battles on a dragon’s back. In this game, you will engage in team battles riding your own dragon, against other dragon riders.
“The early access version features 3 playable classes, all with a distinct power and two additional abilities that you can select depending on your strategy.” Phantoms, the stealth class, allows you to cloak in an instant to escape a chase or set up a nice kill. They can also use blasts to disrupt enemies’ movement or set up mines to ambush enemies where they expect the least. Windguards are the defenders. They can shield their teammates by rushing to their sides. They can also use blasts and poisonous smokes to cover tactical retreats. Marauders mark and track down fleeing enemies. They can use gusts to escape projectiles or frostbolts to numb enemies.
The game currently offers 3 modes: Carnage, Survival, and Gates of Fire. In Carnage mode, killing enemies will increase the bounty on your head. Survival mode is a three-team battle where only your teammates can revive you by bringing your soul back to your base camp, the last surviving team will claim the victory. In Gates of Fire mode, you will pick up the flag and race other dragon riders to pass through eight gates positioned across the field.
Century: Age of Ashes currently has mostly positive reviews on Steam. 90% of the negative reviews are about the game’s matchmaking system, complaining that a match would often start with an uneven number of members on each team.
