Lately, Marvel properties have been looking out into the stars quite a lot. Aliens and space travel have dominated both the comics and the MCU for some time, but make no mistake: Marvel’s magical realms are just as, if not more expansive, and a new game from Firaxis (creators of X-Com) is turning our attention towards what lies just beneath the surface of Marvel’s mysticism.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns has been revealed and centers around the rise of Lilith, the mother of demons, who plans on resurrecting her own evil overlord (a gentleman by the name of Chthon) to take over the Marvel Universe. To stop this threat, earth’s mightiest heroes are forced to ally themselves with the Midnight Suns: a supernatural super-team formed to stop Lilith from raising Chthon and led by an all-new original character created for the game: the Hunter. The Hunter marks the first fully customizable marvel hero, and players will take on her role to fight back against Lilith’s demons side by side with Marvel’s greats, as well as some heroes who haven’t gotten their shot at the limelight quite yet.
Iron Man, Captain America, Doctor Strange and Wolverine have all been confirmed for the game, but the star-studded cast is joined by characters who should delight fans of the comics. The original Midnight Suns consists of Nico Minoru, Blade, Magik and Ghost Rider, all of which use powers deeply rooted in the supernatural, making them natural picks to face off against Lilith and her armies. Interestingly enough, Nico Minoru and Magik have both made MCU appearances in the Runaways TV show and the New Mutants, respectively, but this will be the first time that either are playable in a video game. On the other hand, Blade and Ghost Rider have been fan favorites since their conception, and it’s awesome to see both getting some more love in more modern media. All of these characters will have multiple skins to unlock which will “delight any Marvel fan,” according to the game’s steam page, including some nifty new threads with ancient arcane-looking runes to equip. The artwork shown off includes arcane armor for Wolverine, Iron Man, Blade and Ghost Rider alongside the Hunter, all of which looks fantastic.
The game’s official website includes a timer counting down to the gameplay reveal, so more news is definitely on the way. The game is slated for March of 2022.
