Battlefield 2042 will support up to 128 players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S as well as massive-scale maps. 64 players will be supported on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 with smaller maps than on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game will feature revamped fan-favorite modes as well as new innovative experiences. Conquest and Breakthrough feature the largest Battlefield maps ever that will be filled with dynamic weather and spectacular world events.
The maps in Battlefield 2042 allow for all-new gameplay experiences with unprecedented scale and choices in gameplay. Each map is specifically designed to provide a unique experience that directly impacts strategy for players and their squad. The extra space means more variety and more meaningful vehicle gameplay.
Conquest maps have been specifically designed for the vast scale of supporting 128 players. Action is divided into clusters of various kinds with the action now centered around sectors consisting of several flags instead of individual control points. Breakthrough sees Attackers and Defenders battle over larger-scale sectors as Attackers push towards the final objective. Each sector is designed to have a large number of players which can enable more strategic choice and more flanking opportunities.
Hazard Zone is a new, high-stakes, squad-based game type that is a modern take on the multiplayer experience. It’s described as distinctly Battlefield, but very different from Conquest and Breakthrough. A new way to play Battlefield is coming. It is created as a love letter to the core fans. The new game mode will be unveiled at EA Play Live on July 22.
Battlefield 2042 will expand on the game’s four classes with Specialists. They will have one unique Specialty and Trait. The rest of the loadout is fully customizable.
The official gameplay world premiere for Battlefield 2042 will take place on Sunday, June 13.
