A whole slue of puzzle games have been coming out in 2021, including recursive puzzler, Maquette, and platform game, Balan Wonderland, and more are on their way. From Total Mayhem Games comes the fourth installment in their co-op puzzle adventure series, We Were Here. We Were Here Forever rejoins the story from where the previous three games left off, with players continuing to explore Castle Rock.
While We Were Here Forever is the latest installment in the series, it is not necessary to have played the previous titles to understand what is going on. Each game is able to be played as a standalone game and We Were Here Forever is no exception. However, there is an overarching storyline to be explored, though it is partially non-linear so players can take the storyline as they delve deeper into the areas of Castle Rock.
Players will find themselves trapped in the Antarctic in a haunted castle known as Castle Rock with a friend and must complete puzzles together in order to find their way out. However, they will be separated from their friend and must use a walkie-talkie to describe their half of the puzzle and work together to figure out the solution. The developers have mentioned that the puzzles will be more challenging and, in some cases, will defy logic. As mentioned above, the fourth installment will be taking place in the same location as the previous games, but players will be able to explore unseen areas of the castle and unlock more of the mystery.
We Were Here Forever will release later this year, but until then, We Were Here, We Were Here Too, and We Were Here Together are available on Steam to play through in the meantime. We Were Here Forever will be releasing on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
