The Banished are a crew of mercenaries and rogues who detracted from the main antagonist group, The Covenant. They broke away after rejecting their ideologies and are now lead by Atriox, a powerful Jiralhanae Warmaster. Halo Wars 2 chronicled the conflict between The Banished and the crew aboard UNSC Spirit of Fire, a support vessel associated with the UNSC Navy. They battled it out for control of Installation 00, a structure from which the entire Halo Array can be activated. What exactly this means for Halo Infinite is unclear, but it appears in the trailer as if The Banished have made some ground in their war, with the narrator saying “The hour approaches. Our forces occupy the ring. Within hours it will be under our control.”
This teaser provides tidbits of information about the potential story of the game ahead of the actual gameplay reveal. The exact date of the July Xbox Series X 20/20 showcase hasn’t been announced, but viewers can expect the series to take a unique turn. Developers are using a brand new engine called Slipspace, designed for next-generation game development. Engineering director David Berger spoke about the new engine and the necessity of the change saying “You have to make tools that allow you to make new features that allow you to make features that weren’t thought about. You’ve gotta give the content-creators room to ideate outside of that.” For more information on Halo Infinite and the upcoming gameplay reveal event, follow the game’s official Twitter page.
