According to a report from Variety, Capcom’s zombie game series Dead Rising will be made into a full-length movie. The movie will be made by the new digital media arm of Legendary, the studio that brought us Godzilla and Batman Begins. You will not see this movie in theaters, instead you will be able to view it on Sony’s Movie and TV-streaming service, Crackle. You will be able to access the Crackle app through PlayStation and Xbox consoles, also on mobile devices, smart TVs, and media players like Apple TV and Chromecast.
Legendary Digital Media also mentions that the executive producer of Dead Rising will be “Transformers” franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the person who will be writing the film is Tim Carter, and produce with Tomas Harlan with the Contradiction Films banner. No word yet on who the Director will be for this movie.
After it makes its debut on Crackle, the Dead Rising movie will be made available on SVOD, DVD, VOD, and TV.
The first Dead Rising was brought to the Xbox 360, then was later released last year for Xbox One. It has been reported that the “Dead Rising” franchise has sold over 6.5 million copies worldwide. If you haven’t played any games in the Dead Rising series, you’ll noticed that it feels like Dawn of the Dead, where you are stuck in a mall, where there is a large-scale zombie outbreak and you will need to fight your way through hordes of zombies, in order to survive, escape, and also find the root of why this all happened.
“Dead Rising has a built-in fan base and rich characters and plotlines that are ideal for digital storytelling and on target for Legendary’s brand,” said Legendary Digital chief Tom Lesinski. “Crackle and Content are adept at distributing cutting-edge digital content and we look forward to delivering a highly engaging and cool series for a global audience.”
