Recently, a new patch was released for Anthem; it made a number of changes to the game such as the removal of respawn restrictions, stability and audio improvements, and a change to the loot system that made it so players at level 30 would no longer get white (common) and green (uncommon) loot. As the patch was about to drop, a new bug happened that gave players multiple masterwork and legendary items. Players were happy about this but, after the patch, the bug was fixed. After this, some fans decided to let Bioware know that they don’t like the way the loot has been handled up to this point.
Consequently, Reddit users have started to boycott the game. One user wrote: “started my boycott this morning. Got sent back to the menu after doing 4 stronghold runs and not getting anything but purples (Epic) to show for it. I’m done until something happens.”
Cliff Robertson, the Head of Live Service for Anthem has responded to the feedback on Twitter saying that Bioware will make significant changes “in the next few months”.
In the next few months, we’re expecting to make significant changes, but we’re starting with some incremental ones so we can better navigate that evolution. Our goal is to ensure the best possible player experience.

He also went on to say that Bioware is “not yet fully happy with the game’s loot behavior either”. Another Reddit user shared his response to Cliff Robertson’s tweet. The user posted, “That’s a start. But that it will take ‘months’ to address is ridiculous. The loot system is the reason to play. If that’s broken then there is no reason to continue. They can do better than months surely.”
These are just some of the thoughts of two Reddit users. There are many more all about Anthem’s loot issue. One thread asks for Bioware to meet them halfway, while another calls for a boycott on the game. One thread is all about the loot drops in the game, and has several users sharing their thoughts on the subject.
This is just another problem to a game that has been plagued by issues ever since the game was made available to the public with the two demos. We’ll have to wait and see if Bioware can adjust the game to the fans liking before the Cataclysm event at the end of Act 1.
