THQ Nordic sure has been busy this year, acquiring more developers such as Koch Media and Deep Silver. In addition, they also recently purchased Goat Simulator developer Coffee Stain, as well as Wreckfests Bugbear Entertainment this morning. Also, earlier this year they acquired fan favorites, Time Splitters and Second Sight, as well as Alone in the Dark and Act of War. With all of those IP’s now in their hands, the company is experiencing a windfall of sales, as their most recent financial report shows that THQ Nordic earned roughly $139.5 million. That’s a 1,403% increase from the previous year, an insane turnaround for the company.
It wasn’t just the acquisitions that helped, as some of the companies’ own titles helped with this, such as Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-sted which brought in $13.6 million on its own. Other titles like the remastered Titan Quest Anniversary Edition and This Is The Police 2 also performed well this year, raking in more sales for the company. THQ Nordic also benefited from other publishing companies that they are partnered with, including Codemasters, Sega, and Square Enix.
On top of all of this, the company also revealed in the report that they are working on 55 different games. No you didn’t misread that, we said 55, and 35 of them are nearly done. THQ Nordic CEO, Lars Wingefors, also hinted at even more possible acquisitions, as he stated in the report, “We are patiently working on adding more great companies into the group, both developers and publishers. This is a daily proactive activity within the parent company, as well as within both operating groups.”
Adding more developers makes sense, and the company wants a lot of them; the more the merrier, as this financial report has shown us. It seems the company is intending to create an empire of developers, big and small, with the THQ Nordic flag flying over all of them. As for those unannounced games, we’re still pondering what they could be. Time Splitters Remaster would be a wonderful addition to their library, or perhaps another Saints Row. If anything, this report has only caused us to ask more questions, but one thing is for certain, THQ is back in full force.
