Halloween is just one day away, and usually at this time, gamers tend to gravitate to the horror/survival genre of video games. Both Steam and GOG realize this, and just like a jump scare, sprung out their annual Halloween Sales Events. Steam’s Halloween event has been replacing the annual Fall Sales Event, with more of a theme on scary games, while GOG’s event is appropriately dubbed, the Trick or Treat Sales event. Steams’s event ends on Thursday, November 1, and GOG’s event ends on Monday, November 5. We’ve gone ahead and highlighted some selections that have the best bang for their buck.

Steam’s Sales Event has hundreds on sale, and that’s way too many to choose from. The cult following first-person shooter game, Killing Floor 2 has a 67% discount and is on sale for $9.89, while the popular co-op survival game Dead By Daylight is discounted at 50% off making it $9.99. Interestingly, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is also on sale with a 34% discount making it $35.95. Despite not being considered a “scary game”, it’s still great to see a AAA game on sale only one month since its launch date. Other notables include Night in the Woods with a discount for 40% off at $12, Warhammer II: Vermintide at a 50% discount for $15, and Prey at 50% for $15.
GOG’s Trick or Treat Sales Event looks similar in terms of percentages off, but the majority of those games are old school 1990’s-early 2000’s classics, keeping to their name, Good Old Games. Still, it’s worth a look as it’s probably the lowest these game have ever been reduced to in terms of sales.
Case in point, Alan Wake, which was finally reinstated to the digital gaming marketplace last week, is on sale for a measly $2.99, an 80% discount off of its standard retail value. If you haven’t played this outstanding suspense thriller, you owe it to yourself to give it a shot, as it still holds up to this day.
Another notable sale is Dead Space, which is at a staggering $5, a 75% discount, and yet another staple in the survivor horror genre. Both Outlast 1 and 2 are on sale, at $3.99 and $8.99 respectively, as well as the Whistleblower DLC for the first game at $1.79.
Both digital retailers have some excellent deals, and they’re both up for a limited time. Steam’s event ends in just a couple of days, so it might be more fortuitous to check out their selection first before heading over to GOG’s, which has some more time before it’s over. As we stated earlier, Steam’s Halloween Sale’s Event ends on Thursday, November 1, and GOG’s Trick or Treat Sale’s Event ends on Monday, November 5.
