One of the largest issues that online RPG games face during development is the problem of players coming into group sessions with different amounts of in game XP, leading to situations where some the lower-lever players are less useful to the group’s efforts. This problem gets worsened the more people exist in a group, forcing each to coordinate to ensure they all stay at relatively the same level. The upcoming coop action-adventure game, Wyldheart, by Wayfinder Studios offers its own solution to this problem by having each group share experience to allow players to continue playing alone while still working toward the best interests of the team. The game recently received a trailer going into the system in more detail along with announcing the release of the game’s demo.
According to the game’s Steam store page, Wyldheart will see players create a character that is distinctly not the chosen one, instead acting as a simple villager working toward the safety of their town. There will be four fantasy races that players will have access to, including Freefolk, Mossling, Grimhorn, and Stonefolk. Beyond that, the game will not feature any classes, encouraging players to build out their own playstyle from a skill tree that covers the various aspects of the game such as combat and dungeoneering.
The game will also feature content separate from combat encounters concentrated around towns. There, players can hunt for quests or set up a meal for their party. The campaign will total ten to fifteen hours of gameplay with difficulty that scales to the party’s level, ensuring that the shared XP will never eclipse the enemies.
Wyldheart presents itself as an adventure for busy gamers, which the shared experience system seeks to accommodate. The recently released demo features a shorter version of the game’s typical play pattern, with a small adventure for curious parties, and is available now on Steam.
