Gravity and Daewon Media have announced Ragnarok Console Project, a standalone RPG based on the Ragnarok Online universe, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. The game is looking to release in the first half of 2027. It is currently listed on Steam under the title RAGNAROK PROJECT, with Waycoder listed as the developer. The project moves the franchise away from the usual online structures associated with Ragnarok Online. Steam lists the game as single-player, while Waycoder describes it as a console RPG reimagining of the MMORPG with strategic battle systems and hybrid 2D and 3D visuals.
The story places players in a reimagined version of the Ragnarok world already being pulled apart by dimensional instability connected to the Heart of Ymir. As the damage spreads, the protagonist investigates the truths hidden behind the collapse while encountering factions and companions whose beliefs do not fit into a simple hero-and-villain divide. The journey will take players across broken landscapes, abandoned sites, laboratories, and rift-torn areas as the world continues to lose its shape. Companions based on familiar Ragnarok Online job classes will join the player throughout the story. Knights, Mages, Priests, and Hunters are among the confirmed class types. The promotional material places emphasis on responsibility rather than a simple good-versus-evil structure, with the game’s director note stating, “I do not make the right choice. I only make the choice I am willing to bear.”
The project marks the return to a single-player Ragnarok game on PC and console after a long period. There hasn’t been a PC/console single-player Ragnarok title in roughly 16 years, following the 2011 PSP game Ragnarok: The Princess of Light and Darkness. The announcement is expected to garner anticipation from those who enjoyed Ragnarok DS as well.
Ragnarok Console Project is available to wishlist now on Steam. The final title and exact release date have not yet been announced.
