Video games have grown old enough as a medium for telling stories that certain trends and tropes can be observed across the many that have been made. One of the most classic and beloved characters in video games is the hero character, who players usually play as and grow attached to. Like with any good story element, different writers take the well-known aspects and change specific features to add to the conversation. This is the case with the Kidbash: Super Legends, which sees players control a forgotten video game hero with no memory of his own past. Developed by Authentic Remixes and published by Acclaim, the game recently received a new cinematic trailer to introduce the world and gameplay.
The trailer begins the main character, Kidbash, falling onto an island. On his way down, memories of a pixelated adventure flash through his mind as he ponders how he got there. As the decent continues, the visions grow more violent and closer to the 3D art style that the rest of the game is in. The Steam page offers more details about the story, such as Kidbash’s desire to be a hero and his sense of failure after a village was attacked. His attempt to find a teacher also ends in failure, leaving him alone to discover his past and face his future.
The second half of the trailer shows off each aspect of the game. Players will fight enemies while traversing through the wider world, sending foes flying offscreen when defeated. The game also features various randomized upgrades that players will choose from as they progress. These upgrades can be used for combat or to complete platforming challenges. Players will also have access to different weapons that can be combined when two are obtained to encourage experimentation.
With many gamers having grown up playing retro games like the one Kidbash is hinted to have come from, his return into the newer Kidbash: Super Legends with a sense of confusion may strike home for potential fans. The end of the trailer promises that the game will be coming soon.
