On March 30th, Eidos-Montréal, the studio that developed Deux Ex: Human Revolution, announced in a Linkedin message that the company was laying off 124 employees. In addition to that, the studio also announced the exit of Studio Head David Anfossi who had been with the company for years.
With Eidos-Montréal’s second layoff in months according to GamesIndustry Biz, the company states that the cuts are “a result of changing project needs and impacts across production and support teams. Today is a difficult day for our studio and reflects the need to adapt and concentrate efforts where Eidos-Montréal can be most effective.”
“We are deeply grateful to the team members impacted; this decision is not a reflection of their talent, dedication, or performance. Supporting those impacted with care and respect remains our priority, while ensuring continuity for the teams moving forward.”
The Company then discusses the exit of David Anfossi “Also, after many years as Head of Studio, David Anfossi and Eidos-Montréal are also parting ways. We thank David for his contributions and wish him the best in his future endeavors. A transition plan is underway, and further updates will be shared as new leadership is finalized. Today, however, our priority is supporting our colleagues.” Eidos-Montréal does not explain Anfossi’s leave, but according to Game Industry Biz, he “had been at the studio for 19 years, starting in 2007 as a producer. He previously worked at Ubisoft Montréal, also in a producer role.”
This latest round of cuts, according to GameSpot, was a result of a recently cancelled game that had long been in development. While this hasn’t been confirmed, currently, Eidos-Montréal seems to be focusing on helping with the development of Grounded 2, the Fable Reboot and a new Alien Game. Due to this, all eyes seem to be on Eidos-Montréal’s next move and upcoming projects.
