Over at San Diego Comic Con, Wizards of the Coast showcased the first look at the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man set, which brings Marvel’s Spider-Man and his most infamous foes and friends into Magic: The Gathering. The panel showed off the first look at Showcase scene cards, which combine to form a stunning scene that looks like it came straight out of a comic book. Other cards in the set will feature art from iconic Spider-Man covers by artists such as Steve Ditko. These will be featured on cards inspired by iconic characters. Wizards of the Coast said “Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man brings the excitement of high-flying action and heroics to dynamic card treatments through original artwork and gameplay mechanics that reflect Spider-Man’s agility, ingenuity, and unbreakable sense of responsibility.”

Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man is the first set within the Marvel universe, bringing iconic characters from the pages of comics onto Magic cards. In addition to the heroes, some of Spidey’s most iconic villains will be joining in on the fun. It’s not just Spider-Man either, other heroes from within the Spidey-Verse are part of the set.

Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man introduces some exciting new initiatives to the Universes Beyond brand. This is the first set that has the unifying standard Magic style frame instead of the Universes Beyond frame that was retired earlier this year. This set is also introducing character-specific pronouns on the rules text of legendary creature cards in Universes Beyond sets.

Wizards of the Coast is honoring the epic legacy of the artiists and illustrators from Spider-Man comics that captured the imagination of generations with iconic cover cards. These feature famous pieces of Spider-Man-themed art on legendary creatures from the set. There are 3 mythic rare iconic cover cards in Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man, each of which is a double-faced legendary creature. Iconic cover cards in traditional foil can only be found inside Collector Boosters.

Web Slinger cards celebrate the iconic web-slinging action Spider-Man is known for. Each of these 10 borderless web-slinger cards in the set, 3 mythic rares and 7 rares, feature a slick frame and artwork. These will only be available in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.

Panel cards have the characters of the Marvel universe leaping from the pages of their comics onto Magic cards. There are 14 borderless panel cards, consisting of 4 mythic rares and 10 rares. These Borderless panel cards combine the timeless comic book look with these ew-to-Magic cards. These cards are available in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.

Collecting the Showcase Scene cards individually doesn’t do much than what collecting the cards already do. However, putting all the Showcase scenes together to complete the scene is where the magic shines.

There will be two Showcase Scenes that players can collect in the set.

The first is a 9-card collection depicting a sliver of the action in Jim Cheung’s and Jay David Ramos’s style, celebrating the amazing Spider-Heroes of the Spidey-Verse. These can be found in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.

The second can be found in the Spidey’s Spectacular Showdown Scene box which features 6 borderless traditional foil cards that form a truly sensational scene. These cards are also available in non-foil in Collector Boosters.

Wizards of the Coast has also announced and revealed a series of promo cards that will be available alongside Marvel Legends Figures. These Marvel Legends Figures release on October 1, each with a traditional foil borderless promo card. Each promo card has artwork that matches the design of the Marvel Legends Figure.
