Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is set in the 41st millennium of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, where a human empire known as the Imperium of Man, is engaged in a war against hostile alien races. Players will assume the role of the Space Marines, known as the Blood Ravens 3rd Company, led by Captain Gabriel Angelos. Your goal is to stop the Chaos forces on the planet Tartarus from unleashing a powerful evil in an artifact known as the Maledictum.
From their press release Relic Entertainment shares “This is the iconic Dawn of War as players remember it, but optimized for modern hardware. The award winning and genre-defining classic real-time strategy game has been updated for today’s PC audience while remaining faithful to the grimdark original.” The title features the original Dawn of War and its expansions including four campaigns, nine armies, and 200 maps. Textures have been upscaled four times their original appearance, and improvements to lighting for fidelity. The title features HUD and screen layout enhancements for widescreen viewing as well as modding support.
Developer Relic Entertainment’s intent for the Definitive Edition is to preserve the original experience with Dawn of War while bringing it up to date for modern audiences. Relic Entertainment has gone on to tighten the title’s visuals and upgraded it to a 64 bit-platform opening the path for community support. With the title releasing next month, players may have another classic to look forward to.
