Not bad for a series that was effectively dead for a decade plus, eh? Capcom’s Devil May Cry is often lauded as one of, if not THE, pioneers of the action game genre featuring stylish borderline slapstick gameplay with stylish actual slapstick cutscenes Devil May Cry just brought a unique sense of expression to players’ hands which makes the latest entry in the series, Devil May Cry 5, crossing the 10 million mark that much sweeter of a victory for those who value gameplay and player freedom over everything else.

As I said, Devil May Cry was effectively dead for a long time. After Devil May Cry 4 came out in an incomplete state (though many players wouldn’t change anything about it for the world) Capcom decided that a good direction for the future of the series would be more western appeal, leading to the infamous DmC: Devil may Cry title from Ninja Theory which effectively killed the series for 6 years until the release of Devil May Cry in 2019.
But now we’re here again, 6 years since the last Devil May Cry but unlike DmC Devil May Cry 5 was a critical success and a financial one if these 10 million copies are to be believed. So where’s the next Devil May Cry? The DMC fanbase has only really had a terrible mobile gacha and an even worse Netflix cartoon to tide them over since the release of 5, and they’re craving another stylish action game. But would a new game help the series? Hideaki Itsuno, the mind behind Devil May Cry 3, 4, and 5 as well as the Dragon’s Dogma series, has since departed from Capcom so any future DMC game would well and truly be a new direction for the franchise similar to the leap from Devil May Cry 1 to Devil May Cry 3 and those who fell in love with 5 are going to be surprised, pleasantly or not.
