Indie narrative driven survival horror title The Occultist has been delayed by publisher Daedalic Entertainment and developer DALOAR, the groups announced. The title was previously set to launch this year, 2025 but has been pushed to a 2026 release. Gematsu reports The Occultist will release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime next year.
The Occultist is set within the mysterious island of Godstone. You assume the role of Alan Rebels, set on determining the disappearance of his father at the island; His only clues are his father’s talks about the island and the fact that he was born and raised there.
Adventure Games Podcast caught up with developer David Lorenzo of DALOAR studios and asked him to shed some light on the main character in The Occultist, Lorenzo had this to say “He’s a paranormal investigator and also he has the ability to talk, see and interact with the deaf, with deaf people. Everyone in this island is deaf because of something that happened in the past so you go with the pendulum which has five mechanics that the player has to unlock during the progress of the game and at the end you have to use it for discovering clues, resolving puzzles, at the end to deal with the whole story.”
The Occultist features a mystic pendulum which will enable you to interact and modify your surroundings. You’ll spend time sneaking through environments. The game features music from composer Pepe Herrero and voice work from Doug Cockle known for his contributions as a lead in the Witcher Series.
The news of the delay may be dismaying for those who’ve been following the title since it’s reveal; Though this may be an opportune time for developer DALOAR to ensure that it provides the best quality product come next year.
