With a previous announcement at last year’s Game Awards, Publisher Kepler Interactive and both developers Mureena ans Psychoflow have announced that their indie sci-fi puzzle platformer Bionic Bay, originally planned for a March 13 release date, has been delayed. The game is now set to release on PlayStation 5 and PC on April 17 according to Gematsu.
Bionic Bay is set within a man made structure, covered in organic features. You will assume the role of a scientist set on escaping the biomechanical structure, his main means of accomplishing his goal is a teleportation instrument.
Gaming Bolt interviewed Juhana Myllys, game designer and artist on Bionic Bay and asked about his influences from his previous work, Myllys commented “One major difference between Badland and Bionic Bay is that Badland takes place in an organic environment invaded by machines, whereas Bionic Bay is set in a man-made structure overrun by organic elements. There are certain visual tropes that strongly appeal to me, which I use heavily in both; bold use of color, strong contrasts of light and shadow, a mix of detailed and simple elements, close-ups, zoom-outs, etc. And reflections – reflections are like pizza, they almost never fail you. So, rather than being a direct extension of my previous work, the visual style of Bionic Bay feels more like a natural continuation of my personal journey as a game artist.”
Bionic Bay features a physics based mechanic known as the ‘Swap Mechanic’ allowing you to interact with the world; The swap mechanic can be used to move, attack and defend. Physics based objects include particles, liquids, and dynamic objects.
Though we may only speculate the reason for the delay we can rest confidently knowing that the game may be in the best hands. April is now only a month away and for fans of physics based platformers a potentially new exciting title.
