Developer Lost Pilgrims have announced that their dark fantasy, open-world, turn-based RPG Vagrus: The Riven Realms will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on March 31. Gematsu shares that the title had been released on PC, via Steam Early Access on July 22, 2020 and its full release was on October 5, 2021.
Vagrus: The Riven Realms, like its title suggests, is set in the Riven Realms, where a cataclysm known as the Calamity has destroyed the remnants of the old civilization a millennium ago. You will take on the role of Vagrus, a caravan leader leading his band of travelers to survive in this land.
Shacknews Interviews interviewed creative director at Lost Pilgrims, Geri and asked what some of the challenges were in creating a modern turn-based rpg. Geri had this to say “So with a small team like ours, everything basically is pretty challenging but especially RPGs and strategy games like this have a lot of assets. So creating all those assets, the art, the character art i think that is the most challenging”
Vagrus: The Riven Realms features a branching narrative in quest, career choice and faction. Turn-based combat features human and non-human opponents and tactical position based engagements. The game features various caravan roles with unique combat abilities, quest lines and progression. Vagrus: The Riven Realms also features a faction system where allying yourself with a faction will grant you boons but create tensions with other factions.
Vagrus: The Riven Realms features a stylized art direction; It makes sense how the developing lead Geri would stress the importance of creating outstanding assets. For fans of this style of game, within this particular sub-genre, players may find a title with plenty of unique mechanics and a plot that is very clearly interwoven into the gameplay.
