In a bold move, Geoff Keighley revealed a very promising game trailer through Twitter instead of through his massive video game centric awards show that focuses primarily on video game trailers. But at least we got the trailer, and so we’re greeted with the latest gameplay trailer for Exodus, a sci-fi AAA RPG from Archetype Entertainment with former Bioware designers at its head.

The gameplay looks very polished, much moreso than any Bioware game that posts referring to this game constantly refer to, though keep in mind that this is a curated trailer showing putting its best foot forward. From what we can glean off the trailer we can see some gunplay is involved, as well as what can only be described as “space magic”, which really pulls those Mass Effect comparisons forward, but it also appears that a zipline mechanic will be important (or maybe it’ll be confined to certain builds) which imply greater mobility and environment awareness than Mass Effect would demand.
This Twitter post from Shinobi602 goes further into detail about what’s featured in the game such as a character creator, quest structure, romances, skill and weapons trees, etc.

For those who are unaware of this game before today, this is the game that had Matthew McConaughey featured as one of the characters if that rings a bell. The creative team behind this game pulls from several different studios of some renown, but most notably that of the old Bioware team with James Ohlen, former lead designer and creative director for games such as the Baldur’s Gate series, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Dragon Age: Origins. RPG fans have been really chomping at the bit for more games that hearken back to those mid-2000s days of Bioware RPGs if Baldur’s Gate 3’s success was any indication, and with Dragon Age: The Veilguard earlier this year massively dropping the ball in that department it looks like the door is open for Exodus to possibly be the next big name in the world of RPGs. If there’s one game to get excited about in the near future, Exodus might be it.
