Sony released the PlayStation Portal on Nov 15 2023. Dextero says the greatest issue plaguing the system is its micro-stuttering. This includes tiny pauses in visual display and gameplay. Issues with the framerate were greatly troubling the PlayStation Portal, particularly uneven motion in moments of smooth gameplay. Sony has released their latest update this past week which enables the ability to stream directly without a console and create a new fix for the stutter problem with the PlayStation Portal.
The refresh rate, while once an issue, limited users to unstable output at 59.4 hz. This is no longer an issue. According to PlayStation Lifestyle several games have been tested since Sony released the new update. These games include The Crew: Motorfest, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, NBA 2K25, Days Gone and Dead Cells, EA FC 25 and Call of Duty Black Ops 6; all of which now achieve favorable results.
Polygon reports the new update includes ‘limited cloud functionality’ allowing users to stream PlayStation 5 games without the use of their PlayStation 5 console.
Players can now stream the PlayStation Plus Catalog from their PlayStation Portal. Sony’s introduction to cloud streaming is only available for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers and remains in beta. Shared by PlayStation Blog 120 games are available for play on the cloud service. Some of the major titles include, Dave the Diver, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Streaming maxes out at 1080p 60 fps, haptic control features are present with streamed games, cloud saves are available and can be synced with the PlayStation 5.
The PlayStation Portal is selling strongly as shared by MSN as there proves to be a great demand for the console even a year later. With Sony making the necessary adjustments to its handheld device, they may begin to push it forward in the coming year as its popularity grows.
