October and Halloween are officially over, but there’s some major RPG news that has come out from the end of the month, probably most excitedly is the demo for The Necromancer’s Tale by Psychic Software being released on Steam for everyone to try out. Download the demo here.
A story-rich gothic RPG. Master the rituals of an ancient spellbook. Raise an undead army to march against your enemies. Commune with the realm of the dead & struggle with your descent into madness. Progress through secrecy, diplomacy, blackmail, coercion & seduction until ready to reveal yourself.
As the game’s storepage aptly describes, this is an RPG with a heavy social focus. The power of the occult isn’t the same super magic you’d expect from Pathfinder or Baldur’s Gate, it’s no replacement for mundane weapons and firearms and thus, you have to keep your powers a secret and live a double life of debauchery and nobility during the day before moving to your necromantic rituals in secret.
An interesting premise for a game, and a true necromancer game is something that CRPG fans have been clamoring for for decades, and with a true necromancer simulator finally being given to us, one set in a rarely used Victorian setting with a true occult feeling complete with a robust spellbook and various rituals, this really looks to be an RPG for those who are looking for something a bit more “low power” with their mages.
As stated the game has its demo out right now for you to try for yourself, with an actual release date not announced quite yet. Though with the Steam page declaring that it’s set to be released in Q4 of 2024 be prepared to see a more solid release date pretty soon as we are deep into Q4 of 2024 right now.
