Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link is opening pre-registration soon. The mobile game’s website information has an option for both English and Japanese, which means a worldwide simultaneous release is very likely.
Japanese mobile games often first have a Japan exclusive release with other regions releasing 1-2 years after the Japan region release – an example would be Project Sekai, a rhythm game which was released in Japan in 2020. The Taiwanese server was released on September 30th, 2021, while the English servers were released on December 7th, 2021 under the name Colorful Stage. The Korean server would go on to be released in 2022.
Missing-Link’s official description on the website reads as such:
Become a Keyblade wielder in the first KINGDOM HEARTS location-based action RPG! Embark on a new adventure uncovering the “blank era” of the KINGDOM HEARTS story. Experience epic 3D action battles, collect Disney character “Pieces,” and team up with allies to defeat Heartless through the power of friendship. Use “GPS-Mode” to play on the go or use “Touch-Mode” from the comforts of your home by teleporting to locations around the world!
There is also a teaser trailer on the website, which leads to an unlisted video on YouTube.
Missing-Link will be for iOS and Android and is slated to release 2024. It is developed within the Unreal 5 Engine. The actual game was announced on October 26th, 2023. Closed beta for the game ended on May 10th, 2024.
A collaboration between American company Disney and Japanese company Square Enix, the Kingdom Hearts IP has been incredibly active as of late, especially with the previous games (1.5+2.5, 2.8, and 3) being released on Steam on June 13th, 2024. According to Ichiro Hazama, producer of Kingdom Hearts, the Steam release was to make the game more accessible to newer fans.
