At the end of last month, EA announced that they would be laying off 5% of its staff, or about 670 employees. EA CEO Andrew Wilson said that the layoffs were due to ongoing restructuring to better support their business. Now, developers at Respawn have revealed that several of its employees were impacted as part of the wider cuts at EA.
The Apex team was hit with layoffs today. It sucks seeing some of the people I’ve worked with for almost 3 years now get let go. Hopefully, they land on their feet sooner rather than later.

Several developers at Respawn including Level Designer Aaron Stump and Senior Writer Peter Stewart took to social media and shared their thoughts on those who were impacted at the studio.
Rough day at EA. Rough day at Respawn.
Although I’m thankful to be safe, my thoughts are with everyone affected by the ongoing layoffs, and if there’s any way I can help or signal boost, I will do.
It’s really hard to find the energy and joy to make games in this environment.

Other devs such as Alex Ackerman took to social media and revealed that they were affected even after being at the company for five years.
After 20 Seasons of Apex and 5 years at Respawn nearly to the day, my job has been made redundant and I have been laid off.
Working on this game and supporting this community has truly been the honor of my career and a highlight of my life.
Thank you for everything, legends ❤️— Alex Ackerman🌙 (@alex_frostwolf) March 14, 2024
In addition to the layoffs, several projects were also affected. This includes the cancelation of Respawn’s upcoming FPS which reportedly was going to be a Mandalorian game where players would take on the role of a Mandalorian bounty hunter and capture or kill bounties for rewards.
