The death of a beloved character can be tough, so Sega and the Japanese department store chain Parco are holding an exhibition that will honor all of the major character deaths throughout the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series. Originally reported by Famitsu and translated by Siliconera, the event is titled “Like a Dragon: The Men Who Perished Exhibition,” and will have a few runs from December 30, 2023 to February 25, 2024.

The event will feature gravestones and portraits of the deceased, where you can offer flowers. It wouldn’t be a memorial without a gift shop, so visitors will also be able to purchase small trinkets to honor the dead. It also seems to feature some sort of appearance from the series’ protagonists, Kiryu Kazuma and Ichiban Kasuga.

The gravestones will also have an AR feature, where the dead character will appear when visitors hold their phone’s camera to it (whatever helps the grief process). Some of the characters available for mourning include (spoilers) Han Joon-Gi, Akira Nishikiyama, Rikiya Shimabukuro, Homare Nishitani, Ryo Aoki, and Ryuhei Hoshino.

The event costs ¥700, which is equivalent to about $5. The exhibition will be set up at the Parco in Ikebukuro from December 30, 2023 to January 15, 2024. It will move to the Nagoya Parco from January 20 to February 4, 2024, and will conclude at the Sapporo Parco from February 16 to February 25, 2024.

This event coincides with the release of the eighth mainline game in the series, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which releases on January 26, 2024. It will serve as a nice reminder that the series is not all funerals for the deceased, with an Animal Crossing-style home-builder accessed by riding a dolphin. Surely the dead won’t mind players having a little fun.
