Worlds collide yet again as Wizards of the Coast’s Magic: The Gathering looks to add another universe to its cardboard collection as they collaborate with the nuclear blasted wasteland of Bethesda’s Fallout franchise, set to release in early 2024.

The collaboration features many beloved characters and creatures from across Fallout’s history from Fallout New Vegas to even, boldly, Fallout 76. Included are EDH, or Commander, preconstructed decks featuring Dogmeat, The Mothman, Caesar, and Dr. Madison Lee. And of course, it wouldn’t be a modern Magic: The Gathering set without special alternate artworks available, these featuring a unique spin on Magic’s typical card frame, using the iconic Pip Boy menu to spruce up the cards.

Interestingly, some of the cards such as Dr. Madison Lee, bring back unique mechanics not seen in Magic for several years namely the Energy mechanic, so it will be fun to see how these cards are able to synergize with available cards on the market like Dynavolt Tower or whatever else the crazy deck builders of Magic get up to.

It’s interesting to note that this is far from the first collaboration Magic: The Gathering has done in recent years, and it looks like it will be far from the last. Magic has a history with similar cross-media promotional sets such as Warhammer 40,000 and The Walking Dead. Earlier this year they released a Lord of the Rings set, and just earlier this month they unveiled the Doctor Who set and this Fallout set looks to be the latest of the bunch.

These collaborations, released alongside Magic’s regular sets as well as several other supplemental material like Remastered sets and collector editions makes one wonder if product fatigue trying to keep up with so many new releases may set in for players of Magic especially since, in the case of the Lord of the Rings set at least, several of the cards were very powerful and many players felt forced to track them down and add them to their deck just to keep up.

Fallout itself is no stranger to reaching out a bit further than its used to as well, and this Magic set may be in an effort to bring the Fallout name to the front of the news cycle in anticipation for the upcoming Fallout Amazon series set to release sometime next year.

But regardless, the Fallout set looks to be great and flavorful fun. For those who have the urge to create fun decks centered around their favorite nuclear powered abominations, Brotherhood of Steel paladins, or wasteland tyrants, this will be a perfect place to start.
