In a world full of major AAA MMORPG’s such as World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, EVE Online, and Guild Wars 2, there is one that has outlived them all. Tibia, the longest-running online MMORPG, is getting an extremely major update on its 25th Anniversary. Yes, the game has been ongoing since 1997, and it still has a fairly sizeable player base to boot. Developer CipSoft has announced that next week, Tibia, for the first time in its entire history, will have actual sound.

That’s right, for the past 25 years Tibia has had no sound effects or any music of any kind whatsoever. Now, CipSoft will bring a brand new element into their unbelievably long-running title, the element that will literally be heard for the first time in the game’s history. The update will launch on Tuesday, September 27, and will apparently come with a plethora of different options on how to hear these new sounds. CipSoft states that they wanted the introduction of sound for the game to be a truly special one for the players, “It was crucial for us to provide you with choices, to give you various options to customize your own sound experience, to decide which sounds you want to hear and which you might want to mute.”
CipSoft will also have a special premiere for the anthem of Tibia, essentially the main theme of the entire game. The premiere is set to go live on YouTube next week on Monday, September 26, the day before the patch is implemented. It’s crazy to imagine any title not having a main theme in any sort of capacity when it releases, but for those who have played Tibia at any point in the past 25 years of its existence, this will truly be a remarkable moment. The patch will go live next week on September 27, and Tibia players will hear in the game for the first time.
