Today at PAX South, Gearbox Software debuted new footage of the Homeworld Remastered Collection. The game will feature the first two installments in the series and has a scheduled release date of February 25th for Windows PC.
The Homeworld series is a real time strategy game originally developed by Relic Entertainment. In early 2013, Gearbox Software aquired the intellectual property rights to the franchise after former developers THQ went bankrupt; THQ held the rights after they bought out Relic Entertainment. The game received a much needed makeover with remastered voice recordings and graphics.
Homeworld Remastered will be available on Steam for $34.99 or $29.74 if you pre-order the game now, a 15% discount. Also when you purchase the collection you will gain access to their beta multiplayer, which will launch same day. The multiplayer will include a variety of modes such as maps, races, and modes that are combined from both games.
In addition to the Homeworld Remastered announcement, Gearbox gave fans an update on their latest collaborative development on Homeworld Shipbreakers. Shipbreakers will be a prequel to the entire Homeworld series which will be published by Gearbox and developed by Blackbird Interactive; a gaming studio founded by original team developers of Homeworld.
