In celebration of the game’s 10th anniversary of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, developer CD PROJEKT RED announced The Witcher in Concert. The concert is an innovative blend of cutting-edge visuals and gameplay from The Witcher III: Wild Hunt alongside the game’s original soundtrack composed by Marcin Prybylowicz. Following an initial tour throughout Europe, the concert made its way across the United States, where we got the opportunity to attend one of the shows.
The concert itself goes through the entire game, beat by beat. Starting from the Killing Monsters cinematics all the way to the end of the game, plus both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine DLCs. At the end, the orchestra, which included special guest Percival, the Polish folk metal band and co-composers of the game, we got another sneak peek at the upcoming Witcher IV when they played the reveal trailer from The Game Awards 2024.
Alongside the music, there was snippets of the various Witcher III cinematics mixed with scenes and gameplay, all of which led us through every major beat of the game.
As with most video game soundtracks, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is critically acclaimed by both fans and critics alike. As someone who didn’t pay too much attention to the soundtrack while playing, this live performance showcases how dynamic this soundtrack is. The only way to describe it is how quentiseeially Witcher it is; you know it when you hear it. the visuals also provided a nice trip down memory lane with a neat filter with the additions of certain edits. It felt like experiencing the game again with a new perspective.
The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is argubly one of the greatest games of all-time. One reason for it was the game’s soundtrack. Another big part of it is the journey. As a celebration of both the game and music’s 10th anniversary, The Witcher in Concert is a great way to reexperience both in a new way that lets you feel everything all over again.
