There are many different first person shooters with their own identities, some focus on stories while others have special playable characters with interesting backstories. Blindfire is a multiplayer first person shooter, with its very own unique gimmick. During the matches, you are playing in the dark, with little lighting so you have to focus on what you can hear and make sure all your shots count. Just like the title says, you are firing your gun in the dark, so you are basically blind.
As of right now, the game only has basic vs modes, where you either play free for all or teams with 8 players. The first issue is that you can only play once you have 8 people in the match. If you do not have enough people to play, you will not be able to get into a match. This could easily be fixed by allowing matches to be played even if you don’t have enough players. The game could have a timer and once the timer runs out as long as there are around 4 players, then a match can be played. This game is currently in beta, so hopefully this issue can be resolved when the full game is released.
The main gimmick of Blindfire is you are shooting at other players in a warehouse with little to no lights. You have to use your hearing just as much as your sight, while playing this game. Every time you shoot your gun it will light up showing exactly where you are. The objective is to shoot the other players, while making sure you aren’t seen and get shot at. During the match you will have access to an echo ability that will allow you to see around you for a short time, but you will have to wait a bit before you can use the ability again. The game even has an answer for if someone tries to campout and snipe people. If you remain still for too long your helmet will light up giving off your position to other players. So you have to keep moving the whole time. It is also recommended you play while wearing headphones, so you can tell where the shots are coming from.
The game has a bunch of different customisations for your character. You can change your helmet, chest plate, pants, shoes and gloves. You can also change the color of the light your suit gives off during the match. I can’t tell if it was on purpose or just a coincidence, but as I customized my player, he ended up looking alot like Spider-Man, but either way it’s cool to be able to customize your player, which most first person shooters don’t do nowadays. Once the full game is out, I’m looking forward to any new customization options that they will add.
The matches take place in a dark warehouse, where you only can see certain obstacles. You have to jump around and shoot in the dark hoping to hit someone. You will also find traps around the map that will stun you and give off your location on the map. While the map is creative, I hope they add a variety of different maps, such as a dark forest or a city during a black out. There are many different ideas they can use for maps and can really make this game really stand out.
The matches are action packed and you have to stay on your toes. You have to make sure that your shots hit, because when you take a shot, your gun will light up. You have to avoid the traps around the map while trying not to get shot. You also have to keep moving to make sure that your suit won’t light up. You also have an option on how you reload, if you fast reload you make a lot of noise and if you slow reload it takes longer, but you won’t make noise. You have to try and limit your noise the whole match, because when you make noise you give off your location. I really have to pay attention to the sounds around me so I get a good idea of where the other players are.
In conclusion, Blindfire is an amazing game with its own flare to it. You wouldn’t think trying to shoot people in the dark would work, but with all the mechanics in the game, it’s an amazing experience to play. This game is only in beta but is already a fun experience if you are able to get into a match. I really can’t wait for the full game to come out. I just hope they add more maps and improve the matchmaking system.
