HoYoverse announced that Zenless Zone Zero will launch its Version 2.2 update, “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night,” on September 4 across PlayStation 5 Pro, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PC, iOS, and Android, according to a press release.

The new update adds the Obol Squad, a Defense Force unit that arrives in Waifei Peninsula following the fallout of the Exaltist conspiracy. Seed and Orphie & Magus join as playable agents, bringing new combat dynamics and a deeper look into the Obol Squad’s past and inner struggles. Led by Major General Lorenz and commanded by Colonel Isolde, the Defense Force’s arrival intensifies the already turbulent conflict. Alongside their mission to eliminate the Exaltists’ remnants, the Obol Squad uncovers long-buried truths that tie into Seed’s mysterious history. Seed, an S-Rank Electric Attack Agent and mechanical prodigy, enters combat with the Seed Sr. mecha, providing overwhelming firepower and synergy with other Attack agents. Orphie & Magus, the S-Rank Fire Attack Agent and captain of the squad, specializes in coordinated team combat with powerful lasers, gaining Bottled Heat to place allies in the Zeroed In state for amplified offense. Mercury, an S-Rank Bangboo, joins as combat support with a tank, while returning favorites Trigger and Evelyn reappear in Version 2.2. Soldier 0, Anby, is still in training, but her return is promised in a future version with enhanced potential.

The update also expands the event lineup. Band of Brave Bangboo introduces new tower defense stages with mechanics such as environmental miasma and bushes, rewarding players with the A-Rank Excaliboo. This Bangboo’s attacks depend on whether it draws its holy sword successfully, switching between devastating sword strikes and determined hammer blows. The Rhythm Rave event adds a lighter diversion, asking players to sync beats with classic tracks to earn in-game rewards. Quality of life improvements are also included, such as letting Proxies choose between Belle or Wise before companion events like Quality Time invites.

Zenless Zone Zero has continued to grow since its launch, and HoYoverse has supported it with new factions, agents, and content updates while refining the player experience. The studio describes the game as an urban fantasy ARPG where players, known as Proxies, navigate Hollows and unravel mysteries in New Eridu, the last city standing after a cataclysm. HoYoverse, also known for Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, continues to push forward with technical innovations and worldwide community engagement, with offices across Singapore, Montreal, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Seoul.

Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.2, “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night,” will be available September 4, bringing a new chapter of the Obol Squad and more events to uncover in Waifei Peninsula.
