Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold 10 million copies in three days. As result, Tears of the Kingdom is the fastest selling game in Nintendo’s history. The first three days brought in a revenue of $700 million based on the $70 selling price. The reason why Tears of the kingdom has been so successful (even more than its prequel) is due to its increased emphasis on creativity and freedom. It is exactly the type of game most players are looking for in games at this current point in time. Fox Zarow, an assistant teaching professor at Northeastern university was quoted saying, “Letting you go forth and paint this world in your narrative, in your vision, and approach it in your own way without hand holding you completely, that resonates with people.”
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will most likely take the slot as the best selling game of the year. With so much success already, many are wondering when/will there will be a DLC.
To begin, and given how successful the launch was, it does make sense for a DLC to exist sometime in the future. After all, the sales are already ahead of its prequel, Breath of the Wild. As of now, there is no public announcement for a DLC but with regards to the release pattern of the Breath of the Wild, we might expect an announcement in the next few months. Most likely, this will occur in the Winter of 2023.
Another question running through the minds of players is what might the DLC look like and what will it include?Because the Breath of the Wild’s DLC implemented many improvements, like a travel medallion that allows you to set your own fast travel points, or the ancient horse bridle which allows you to warp your horse to any location on the map, we may see the exact same thing with that of Tears of the Kingdom. Not only may we see additional improvements but maybe even the presence of a blacksmith. This would allow players to use their favorite materials and have them crafted into mythical items. Continually, we could see the implementation of amiibos that offer a wide range of new content.
Overall, it is likely that we’ll see a DLC in the near future for Tears of the Kingdom. It’s only right that we see one soon due to the game’s vast success. As for now though, we’ll have to be content with the gorgeous game we have already.
