On the first day of the new year, Yuji Horii, the game designer behind the Dragon Quest series, released a Tweet revealing the status of the next game in the series. In the Tweet, Yuji Horii confirmed that Dragon Quest XII was on its way but didn’t specify when or what the game would be about. He also promised gamers that there may be other Dragon Quest-related things that can be released this year.
あけましておめでとうございます。下にあげた以外にも、まだまだ言えないものもありますが、12は、まだちょっと先になりそうです。でも、その前に発売できるものもあるかも。今年も、よろしくお願いしますね😊 pic.twitter.com/dovPbbkydl

According to Twitter’s automatic translator tool the Tweet states, “Happy New Year. Other than the ones listed below, there are still some things that I can’t say yet, but 12 seems to be a bit ahead. But there may be things that can be released before that. Thank you again this year.” This seems to imply that more titles could be released in 2020 before Dragon Quest XII; however, nothing has been confirmed.
Underneath the Tweet is an image from Dragon Quest Walk and underneath that picture is a statement that according to Siliconera reads: “Happy new year. Last year we started with the movie Dragon Quest Your Story, then released Dragon Quest XI’s Switch version. We also launched Dragon Quest Walk for smartphones, announced both an anime and game for Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. As for the production of Dragon Quest XII, it’s been 33 years since Dragon Quest I and I’m very happy to be able to take on a new challenge like this today. I am truly grateful for all of the fans that continued supporting Dragon Quest and all the staff that kept it going. I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to keep going, but I do hope to keep doing my best for a little while longer. Let this year be a wonderful year for you all, and I hope to see your support this year as well.” No new information has been released regarding Dragon Quest XII but more information will likely be revealed at a later date.
The latest entry in the series, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes Of An Elusive Age was released back in 2018 for PC and PlayStation 4, for Nintendo Switch in 2019.
