It’s been exactly one month since Yakuza: Like a Dragon was rumored to be coming to other regions outside of Japan later this year, and now they’ve just been confirmed. RGG Studio and Sega of America have jointly announced that the next entry in the Yakuza franchise will finally be released in the West this holiday season on November 13. It’s important to note that this specific date is for the current generation of consoles and PC. The next generation, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X don’t have any official dates as of this writing, although the studio mentions in the tweet that it will come out for the Xbox Series X “in November.”
Coming to Xbox One, Windows 10, PlayStation 4, and Steam on November 13!
Launching on Xbox Series X in Nov, PlayStation 5 Coming Soon.

We even got a new trailer to boot, where it shows off some of the classes you can choose from. For those that aren’t aware, this newest iteration of Yakuza completely differs from the usual formula, going from an action beat-em-up genre to an action turn-based JRPG. You’ll be able to pick certain classes for the characters to play as which includes a chef with a frying pan, a musician with a guitar, and a Japanese Idol dancing your way to victory. It’s as ridiculous as it sounds, but it’s the unique and quirky aspects of this that make it so appealing as a breath of fresh for fans of the franchise.
The game has been out in Japan since January, and for the most part, has been well received. The title shipped 400,000, units physically and digitally in the first couple of months, which is a fairly strong indicator of how the game will fare when it finally reaches other regions. Historically, the Yakuza franchise does very well outside of its native Japan, but only recently has it started to peak in terms of popularity. This was no more evident than when people touring Japan wanted to see Kamurocho, the city that the game’s setting takes place in. Spoiler alert: Kamurocho isn’t real, though it is based on the real-life Kabukicho.
Either way, we’ll see just how Yakuza: Like a Dragon really is, and thankfully, we won’t have to wait long. Yakuza: Like a Dragon will launch on November 13, 2020, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and PC through Steam. The Xbox Series X version will launch in the same month while the PlayStation 5 version will be “coming soon.”
