Sega has been releasing a lot of PC ports as of late. Most recently, Catherine was released to the surprise of many. Now, those who weren’t surprised knew it was coming ahead of time; thanks to Sega posting vague references to the game on Steam, many fans connected the dots. Yakuza Kiwami is the latest game that Sega has given the same treatment, teasing and revealing information through vague posts on a Steam page. While we’ve known the game was going to be coming to PC at some point, we didn’t know when until a gif was posted on the Steam page of Yakuza Kiwami. In the gif posted, Goro Majima rises from a manhole and at the end of the gif, the date “February 19” flashes for a single frame. Sneaky, right?
For those unfamiliar with Yakuza Kiwami and the Yakuza series as a whole, they are a collection of beat ’em ups with RPG elements produced and published by Sega. The games usually follow protagonist Kazuma Kiryu who often works with the Tojo Clan. I’ll leave it at that as to avoid getting even remotely close to spoiling anything.
The series has been incredibly successful both in Japan and overseas, selling over 10 million units since the first game in the series released in 2005. If you haven’t played any games in the Yakuza series, you’re in luck. Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of that first game in the series, following the release of Yakuza 0 on Steam which released less than a year ago. There are some notable differences between Yakuza Kiwami and the original release, such as a variety of new content and mini-games. If you’re interested in the full scope of changes between Yakuza Kiwami and the original release, this is a good read.
