One of Nintendo’s quickest growing properties, Xenoblade, has had the privilege of nearly all of its games becoming available on each Nintendo console, oftentimes with upgrades to make the experience better for returning players. This occurred in 2024 with the release of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, which was a full remaster of the original game from the Wii U. Now, that game will itself enjoy an enhancement with the release of its upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
Nintendo recently put out a trailer both announcing the new upgrades and explaining what they mean. As is standard for the Switch 2 versions of their most popular games, the new version will be available both separately and as a free install for those with Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on the Switch. The trailer shows off some of the most critical features of the game, including the unique main character and grand setting complete with lava caves and broken mountains. The fast-paced vehicle sections are used to show off the new enhanced framerate, allowing players to go up to 60 fps, making for a smoother experience.
As the trailer progresses through other scenes recognizable to fans of the original game, it also shows off the graphical improvements of the new version. This includes an enhanced resolution, bringing the game up to 4K visuals. This makes the character art in particular less fuzzy on close inspection.
Players looking to play through the story of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition are left with no shortage of options given the many releases and remasters the game has already witnessed. Now with the most advanced version yet now available, the Xenoblade series as a whole looks to be staying for the long run. The digital version of the game is available for purchase now on the Switch 2 with the physical version coming April 16th, 2026.
