Xbox Shows Off Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition At E3

A couple of days ago at the Xbox E3 conference, it was announced that strategy game lovers will be treated with an updated version of one of the most praised games of the genre. With help from Xbox Games Studios, developers at Forgotten Empires, Tantalus, and Wicked Witch are bringing Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition to fans later this year.

In celebration of the game’s 20th anniversary, Age of Empires II is back after its original release back in 1999. Upgraded with 4K Ultra HD graphics and remastered audio, the developers are focusing on refined nostalgia while also introducing some new facets. The remastered audio also includes a new soundtrack and more online features. Players looking for a real fight can go online to challenges others from around the world with their choice of 35 civilizations from our history. Along with this comes a spectator mode for those looking to study their fellow players and quality streaming support for platforms such as Twitch.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is going to include all of the content from the original game and expansions, but that’s not all. The devs are continuing forward with some new content that will also launch that is called The Last Khans. This content, presumably focusing on the culture and armies surrounding Genghis Khan, will give players access to 4 all new civilizations and 3 new campaigns to immerse themselves into. Claiming to include over 200 hours of tactical gameplay that could span over 1,000 years of history, this was a remake that was well received at E3.

While Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition has yet to specify a 2019 release date, prospective players can sign up for the closed beta that will be help on Steam. Those that are invited to participate will be able to give valuable feedback that will help set the tone for a trip back 20 years.
