Xbox Scarlett To Support Microsoft’s Play Anywhere Scheme

Some new information has been released about the Xbox Scarlett. According to IGN, the head of Xbox Phil Spencer stated at X019 that Microsoft plans to support the Play Anywhere Scheme in the new console generation. This means that players will only need to have a digital copy of their game to enjoy it across all Microsoft platforms including the Xbox Scarlett when it releases.

Stevivor interviewed Phil Spencer about the Xbox Scarlett’s capabilities at X019, asking if a game such as Halo Infinite could be played across Xbox One, PC, and eventually Xbox Scarlett. Phil Spencer confirmed that this would be the case stating, “Our goal for our first-party games is that your entitlements will be cross-generation and your Achievements will move effectively with your save game because that’s where they stand.” This means that that Microsoft plans to make the shift from Xbox One to Xbox Scarlett easier than the previous generational shift.

Spencer has also stated that he hopes that third-party developers will emulate Microsoft’s strategy. “We think it’s a good thing that third-party games allow more players to play their games but it’s relationships with their parties. They own their content.” He then continued stating that, “Just like some third-parties are in Game Pass and some are not and that’s their choice.”

It is also rumored that the Xbox Scarlett will focus on streaming. Back in August, a developer who is working with a studio that has access to both the PlayStation 5 Dev kit and the Xbox Scarlett Dev kit leaked that the consoles planned to make live streaming a major part of the console because both of the consoles will allegedly come with a camera. Not much more is known at this time, however, the Xbox Scarlett will release during Holiday 2020 along with Halo Infinite.
