In July of this year, Xbox One outsold the PS4 in being the best-selling console in the US. This would mark the first time since October of last year that the Xbox One outsold the PS4. This achievement does not do the console’s overall sales justice. Last December was the best month the console had up until now.
What comes as a surprise is that his achievement happens so close to when Microsoft is going to release their next two systems. So it would be expected that most customers would wait until these two consoles would be released. Through waiting one would expect to see these consoles outselling the older version of the Xbox One, however this might not have been the case as the new Xbox One S was just released earlier this month and a month ago the Xbox One sold well. However we will not know exactly how well until the July NPD is released next week.
So far the Xbox One S has sold out in the UK and is nearing that point in the United States. The newest version of the console is already having a much better opening sales than the original which looks good for the future of the Xbox One. On GameSpot, Microsoft is quoted saying that the “total gaming hours on Xbox consoles globally were up 18 percent over last year, reaching 1.55 billion hours”. The Launch edition of the game will not be restocking so in order for future buyers to get their hand on an S they would need to buy one of the upcoming bundles.
