There have been a lot of official game announcements during the Xbox Games Showcase, and one of the new reveal trailers was for Aphelion. The game is being developed by Don’t Nod, the team behind the game Life is Strange, and they are in a partnership with The European Space Agency. There was not an exact release date, but the game is set to release in 2026 on Xbox as well as PlayStation 5 and on PC.
Through the cinematic trailer, players can get a glimpse at the new science-fiction game that Don’t Nod is creating. The trailer reveals two characters, Thomas and Ariane, who have crash landed onto an alien planet. In the trailer, players can hear Thomas talking about how Ariane sacrificed everything to make a new world and to save mankind. Ariane’s sole mission is to also find Thomas, who also seems to be stranded on the planet.
According to the description under the trailer, the story goes as follows, “By 2060, Earth will be uninhabitable. The discovery of a 9th planet – Persephone – at the edge of the Solar System, is humanity’s best hope. The European Space Agency is dispatching the Hope 01 scientific mission, consisting of 2 accomplished astronauts, Ariane and Thomas. Their mission: to survey the planet and determine whether humanity can prosper anew here.”
“Stranded on a frozen planet, astronaut Ariane must brave rugged landscapes and shifting realities to rescue her wounded partner, Thomas. This story-rich sci-fi adventure blends exploration, traversal, and tense stealth gameplay.”
There are a few clips of gameplay as Ariane travels through the unknown planet by swinging on ropes to get from one place to the next, crossing a thin piece of ice to get to her next destination, and exploring the frozen landscape and other rubble around the planet. At the very end of the trailer, players get a glimpse at what seems to be Thomas, and the sound of an alien creature ready to attack.
