Last year, Bethesda Game Studios released a sneak peek at its next, highly anticipated game Starfield. Then, it was announced that the game would be launching in November later this year, however, the game got delayed. Today, the first official look at Starfield gameplay was released.
Starfield is the first new universe in 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios. The game takes place in 2330 where humanity has ventured beyond our solar system, settling new planets, and living as a spacefaring people. From humble beginnings as a space miner, you will join Constellation – the last group of space explorers seeking rare artifacts throughout the galaxy – and navigate the vast expanse of the Settled Systems.
The gameplay footage starts early in the game as the player lands on the moon of Kreet. After exploring the planet a little with a robotic companion coming face to face with the wildlife, the player comes across pirates of a group called the Crismon Fleet and engages them in combat, showing off several weapons that players can use as well as other equipment. Following the encounter, the gameplay transitions into the city of New Atlantis on the planet Jemison where Constellation, the last group of space explorers is located. The story of Starfield revolves around the player discovering artifacts that may solve answers to the mysteries of the universe.
Starfield will feature what Bethesda Game Studios calls their most flexible character customization system yet. Players can customize all the elements of their character including the walk style. Backgrounds will provide three starting skills. Optional traits that players can choose from will have advantages and disadvantages. Skills will rank up by using them and completing challenges. The game will also feature a deep crafting system. Resources you find can help craft weapon mods. Outposts can be created and act as a home away from home. They are used for survival and can help in resource generation. Players will also have their own spaceship that they can customize and fly across the universe of Starfield which will consist of over 1,000 planets.
