It really seems that Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk is going to be the next Nier: Automata in terms of just how many guest appearances their games can make in the most random games. First, we had Lucy from the highly acclaimed Cyberpunk: Edgerunners make surprised appearance as an upcoming DLC character for Guilty Gear: Strive and now it looks like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be featured in Wuthering Waves from Kuro Games as well.
I just want to point out that this is quite the international collaboration here. Pondsmith and Cyberpunk are American properties but Cyberpunk 2077 is a product of CD Projekt Red, a Polish company. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, a companion story to Cyberpunk 2077 was the endeavor of Trigger from Japan, and now a Chinese company in Kuro Games is looking to collab with Edgerunners for Wuthering Waves. No doubt the licenses and legalities are a bit less cut and dry than that, but still this is one hell of a cultural intersection we’ve got going here.
For the PC players who want to try the game out, Wuthering Waves is set to release for Steam at the end of the month on April 28th, 2025. This collaboration will be released some time in 2026 so there’s going to be some time between the game’s release and whatever they have in store for the Cyberpunk IP, so if you want to download Wuthering Waves in anticipation for whatever Edgerunners content they have you’ll be waiting for a while.
Of course, Wuthering Waves draws inspiration from Genshin Impact, so you can probably imagine what kind of collaboration it will be. Since it’s specifically Edgerunners no doubt Lucy and Rebecca will be heroes that you can roll for, maybe David as well, and there might be some dark horses like Kiwi or even Rogue (who does feature in Edgerunners). Me personally? I’m rolling for Adam Smasher.
