Wrath: Aeon of Ruin Revealed And Emulates Classic Duke Nukem

After being teased yesterday, the first reveal trailer and gameplay have been shown for Wrath: Aeon of Ruin, by Killpixel and 3D Realms, the creators of beloved classics like Duke Nukem. The game has been mechanically inspired by their other project, Quake. Prospective players will easily see the similarities in both videos from the first-person view to the graphical style to the weapon animations. This announcement comes from out of nowhere and will certainly bring some nostalgic feelings to first-person shooter fans that are also looking for something new.

Right from the start of the extended gameplay video, something noticeably new to this style of game is the blade that players will wield on their forearm. Another clear feature is the similarities of the graphics to Duke Nukem, but with a fresh and more modern look. The style of a dark, Doom-like setting will provide fans of these games with just as much gore and destruction. The game is “[f]ueled by legendary Quake 1 technology, the veins of Wrath pump with the DNA of revered ‘90s shooters” and “embraces the timeless elements of classic titles.”

In Wrath, players will take control of Outlander who had been drifting aimlessly on the Ageless Sea until washing up onto the shores of a barren and dark world. A figured called the Shepard of Wayward Souls gives Outlander the quest of hunting down what remains of the Guardian race of the Old World. This will require the exploring of ruins, journeying through horrific sites, and battling the monstrosities of the Old World to complete this mysterious mission.

To take down enemies, Outlander will have to use nine weapons and ten artifacts over the course of the game. 3D Realms describe the vast setting that will be covered as containing three hubs and fifteen “enormous” levels that are filled with interesting lore and unique environments. Wrath will be easily mod-compatible from its launch and what was used to create the game will be available to modders, from levels to weapons and NPCs.

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is coming this Summer to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam Store.
