World of Warcraft is Taking Back its Decision to Increase Subscription Prices in Ukraine

On June 5th, the long-running Blizzard juggernaut, World of Warcraft, announced that they were going to be raising the prices for subscriptions in both Turkey and Ukraine according to Gamerant. However, Blizzard has recently made an announcement, exactly one week after the first, stating that they are taking back their decision to increase the prices in Ukraine.

For a bit more context, wowvendor goes into detail discussing the exact price increases that were originally set for the Turkish and Ukrainian regions of the game. The update was planned for July 5, 2023 and would increase the World of Warcraft subscription prices by about 30% from what they were originally. Additionally, on July 18, 2023, the value of game editions and upgrades also plan to be shifted. This means the prices for game editions and upgrades will be the same until 11:59pm (EEST) on July 17, 2023.

Given the time period by which Blizzard announced the increased prices, many fans believed the company was being tone-deaf by raising the prices given that the country has been in a war with Russia for more than a year now. Blizzard did indeed hear the cries from Ukrainians who would be affected by these price increases and decided to take back their decision just a week after announcing it.

That being said, the price change has not changed for Turkey. All of the mentioned changes above that were originally meant to affect Ukraine and Turkey will now only affect Turkey. So Turkish players of the game will need to buy their subscriptions before July 5th if they want to avoid cost changes.

While it was in poor taste for Blizzard to charge Ukraine more money on their subscriptions during their time of struggle, it is good to hear that they went back on their decision quickly, showing that they heard their audience and understand the current situation.
