Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem will be Resetting the Economy

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem is a game that has taken heavy inspiration from the Diablo franchise. The project started back in 2015 with a Kickstarter campaign in which the game was going under the title Umbra. The campaign was a success and the game hit early access in 2016. The game was planning to be an evolution of the ARPG genre, although, with its release in 2020, the game was rated as a middle of the road game that was praised for his complex character system it was also criticized for its technical issues. The developers have been pushing out updates and hotfixes to keep the game in a working state. Wolcen Studio is working on releasing its new content update for free, Chronicle 1: Bloodtrail.

That update will include gameplay improvements and new content, and more importantly, a complete reset of the economy.

The update will be bringing enough new content that the economy has to be reset, which will mean that all the characters created before the update will be transferred into a game mode called “Legacy” mode. Characters in Legacy mode will be able to interact with all the new content coming out, but any characters created post update will not be able to interact with each other. That includes trading gear with each other, all other characters will still be able to do that with other characters in the same mode.

The developers said the update “is only the beginning of a new Wolcen’s journey,” but the game has been struggling since release. While the game peaked at 127,000 at launch, the game has only gotten 488 players for the last twenty-four hours and hasn’t broken six digits since its launch. Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem may see itself being sidelined for new projects if the game doesn’t get a turnaround, although revivals are impossible as No Man’s Sky and even Among Us both have turned into popular games after suffering lackluster launches.

Griffin Gilman: Gaming may very well be half of my personality, so it is only natural that I write about them. The best genre is RPGs, while the best game is Nier Automata. That's not an opinion but a matter of facts.
