Witcher 3 Developers Releases First Half Financial Data

Witcher 3 was one of the biggest releases of the year. And earlier today, the Witcher developer CD Projekt Red released their financial reports. From GameSpot they found that “overall, the Polish studio pulled in 319 million Zloty, which comes out to $82.7 million. The company recorded a profit of 135 million Zloty, which is $35 million. These numbers are down substantially from the same period last year, when CD Projekt Red made 512.7 million Zloty ($133 million) in revenue and a 236.3 million Zloty ($61.2 million) profit, though this period obviously benefited from the massive release of The Witcher 3.” Since The Witcher 3 and its DLC are still being sold, these bolstered the sales and numbers from the financial report. However, the first DLC is not counted in the report as release date was October of last year and the report is only from January 1st to June 30th.

From the above chart, you can see the financials based on quarters and it is more apparent from the numbers that the revenue at this time of the year are down compared to the same time as last year. The next project is a free to play online card game called Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, and a beta will arrive in October. Even though the game is going to be free like other games of the type there will be microtransactions that you can spend real money on. Coming out tomorrow is The Witcher 3 Game of The Year/Collector’s Edition which will come with the base game and all the DLC.

For the future of The Witcher, a Witcher 4 game might not be coming out anytime in the near future, but it has been stated that The Witcher world is ripe for stories. There will most likely not be one coming out within the next year as the developers say that they will not be annualizing the franchise because they care more about the experience for the gamers. Since they created a giant world there are many stories that need to be told so it is good to hear they are putting in the effort to ensure a great game for the fans.
