Wii U’s Google Map Service Shut Down

Say goodbye to Wii U Street

It’s been tough times for Nintendo lately.
Offered as a free download since its launch back in 2013 (until a $5 charge recently), Nintendo today announced that they will be terminating Wii U Street’s services as of March 31st of this year, as of 8PM PST.
Sadly, once the app is offline, it will remain so permanently, according to the company’s website.

Once service is discontinued, this software will not be usable

Wii U Street was partnered with Google, and will remain on sale for said $5 USD until the end of this month–sales officially halting as of January 31st.  So purchase and use NOW if you are engrossed!

The fun part of Wii U Street was the ability to interact with those beautifully rendered Google Maps laid out large on your TV, while also utilizing that neato Wii U GamePad.

Switch your Street View from the GamePad to the TV screen with the push of a button, and let the whole family experience the fun of your immersive virtual world trip. It’s a great way to plan out your next vacation, or simply explore from the comfort of home.

Nintendo really appeared to be pushing to the tourist in its demographic, ensuring excellent recommendations and close up shot of hot spots and tourist destination, all easily viewable on your flat screen TV.

This is couple with many losses for Nintendo back in 2015. Wii U TVii was put on the backburner back last August–and sorry to say with a name as jumble and difficult to remember as that, no wonder! It’s sad to say that the Wii U wasn’t the investment Nintendo was hoping to make with consumers.

Thankfully, there is hope on the horizon with rumors shrouding around their future console, currently called NX.
Nintendo might not be out of this race yet!
