Weforge Studio has revealed that its co-op stealth extraction horror game Macabre will launch in Steam Early Access on September 29. The announcement comes with a new trailer that confirms the release date and highlights the game’s tense survival gameplay inside a collapsing time rift, according to a press release.
The trailer showcases the gore and horror of the title, starting with a horrifying and disturbing “help me.” The narrator takes over, letting you know that you’re all on your own while informing you that there’s a creature hunting you. A creature that seems just as capable of time travel as the protagonist, as they gather materials to orient themselves.
Macabre places players in an unstable dimension where shifting maps, changing objectives, and the presence of an adaptive interdimensional terror ensure that no two sessions feel the same. Guided by the mysterious NPC Banjo, players can either squad up with three others or attempt to survive solo as they scavenge for resources, complete objectives, and try to escape before the Rift closes in on them. A lurking predator known as the Crawler learns from player tactics, forcing new strategies in every run.
The game has already built strong momentum ahead of launch. Over 250,000 players have added it to their Steam wishlists, and during the recent Steam Next Fest, its demo ranked among the Top 50 most played titles.
Early Access will include multiple procedural maps, solo and four-player co-op, dynamic weather, and monster behaviors that evolve throughout each playthrough. Completing Banjo’s objectives progresses players through Rift timelines, while new maps and enemies will be introduced as the Early Access period expands.
According to Game Director Jake Davey, the team hopes to refine the game with player feedback, emphasizing that Macabre’s adaptive AI and high-stakes cooperative design are meant to surprise. Creative Director Jay Topping added that this milestone follows more than four years of development, beginning with prototypes and a Kickstarter campaign that allowed the project to grow into what it is today.
Macabre enters Early Access on September 29 worldwide, and players can wishlist the game on Steam to be notified the moment it goes live.
