We Might Be Getting The Overwatch Cross-Console We Want

Blizzard is always quick to supply fans with their wants and desires when it comes to enjoyable gameplay and overall fan service. While Overwatch has not been out for long, and has reviewed decent to good reviews across all consoles, players find it difficult to play with their friends across different consoles. Many fans have requested a remedy for this from Blizzard, and Blizzard finally responded via a tweet:

It’s not a promise, but nor is it a denial. There is indeed hope still remaining on the horizon where once there was none! Blizzard has one more than one occasion in the past denied any possibility of cross-console gameplay–yet here we are! So close!

Last year, Blizzard similarly addressed the often-asked-for cross-console play across PC, PS4, and Xbox One during the company’s own specific gaming con, Blizz Con. Blizzard senior designer Jeremy Craig stated during an interview:

It’s really difficult. From a gameplay standpoint, mouse and keyboard has a little bit of an advantage in terms of being able to spin really quickly. And our game is pretty fast-paced. It just felt like there was a little bit too much of an advantage. It just seems like the console crowd is going to love playing against the console people; the PC people will love playing against PC people.

Representatives from the company went on to use highly anticipated Street Fighter V as an example of a large name cross console game that was not well balanced, not well executed, and not well received. These are none of the things Blizzard ever desires to see associated with any of the content they produce, and Blizzard representative further clarified, stating:

Mixing mouse/keyboard and controller can have balance and competitive issues.

While it doesn’t look like we will be getting a PC, PS4, and Xbox One cross console, we just miiiiight be getting PS4-Xbox One cross console for Overwatch.

Keep your eyes peeled!
