The 1960’s brought forth an interesting mix of bizarre movies where a perfect world was overtaken by some type of alien or what have you. 1930’s radio shows like War of The Worlds had helped start this. But titles such as Barbarella, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and They Came From Below! were all memorable names of the 60’s era. Oh, you haven’t heard of that last one? That’s because it isn’t a sci-fi movie from the 1950’s, but in fact the title of the first We Happy Few DLC that takes a heap of inspiration in it’s presentation from those 1960 classics:
The DLC title “They Came From Below” is a quick nod to the 1953 classic It Came From Outer Space! And the trailer shows how much was inspired by that genre of movie; the bold lettering across the screen asking important questions (what happened to Doctor F?), the over-the-top narrator to hype you up, and well, the fact that We Happy Few takes place during the mid-1960’s, the era that this type of sci-fi movie was still very popularized.
Getting away from history, players will take on the role of a previous NPC known as Roger, who sneaks down to Dr. Faraday’s secret lab with his boyfriend James. Though you’ll have to stop an incoming robot invasion. But, these robots aren’t just any old robots, these are alien robots. It’s a good thing Roger and James snuck down here to be the DLC’s unexpected heroes, because Dr. Faraday’s lab is filled with all sorts of high tech gear and weapons to use against these surprise invaders.
There has been some time since We Happy Few had first come out, and it’s name simply faded over the year despite its high rating on its Steam page. However, with the inspired and rather over the top trailer and exciting sounding DLC, it’s sure to catch the eyes of many.
“Roger and James in: They Came From Below” is currently available now for $7.99 USD on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
